Welcome to the
2010 Coffs Coast Local Food Film Festival
"LIVE LOCAL EAT LOCAL"
The Coffs Coast Local Food Alliance is delighted to announce the inaugural Coffs Coast Local Food Film Festival. Over three weeks from 3 June to 20 June, audiences in Sawtell, Bowraville and Bellingen will experience a diverse array of highly-acclaimed national and international films. These beautifully-made documentaries and shorts cover everything from the inequities of the international coffee trade, global overfishing, the amazing properties of soil to the return of chickens to the suburbs, and much, much more.
Running through all the films is the core message that we need to make, individually and collectively, big changes to the way we live, work, produce and consume if we are to transition to sustainable societies living in balance with the earth's ecosystems and natural cycles. A sustainable, resilient local food system is at the heart of this transition. Our aim is inspire audiences to join with us in the necessary and urgent work of constructing this system for the benefit of all who live and visit the Coffs Coast.
We invite you to identify with and participate in this thrilling challenge, through sponsoring the Festival.
The festival is just one of the many community education & awareness activities undertaken by the Local Food Futures Project. The festival has two key objectives; Firstly, to increase awareness and knowledge of the problems associated with the dominant systems of food and agriculture.
Secondly, to promote local food systems run on the principles of sustainability, resilience and social justice as the better alternatives. Coffs Coast Local Food Film Festival
presents films about our most important life sustaining resource;
food. The purpose of the film festival is to educate the public on
issues regarding our current food systems including modern food
production, distribution and consumption, and their effects on our
health, the environment, human rights, and local and global economies.
The 2010 Coffs Coast Local Food Film Festival focuses on several
crucial issues: access to clean food and water; human rights; local and
sustainable agriculture; and the effects of policy on small Australian
farmers.
The film program offers three full sessions of film screenings over three consecutive weeks at three locations (Bellingen, Bowraville and Sawtell). Selected screenings will be followed by discussions led by the co-ordinator of the Coffs Coast Local Food Film Festival
Nick Rose, along with invited filmmakers and other guest speakers. The
goal of the discussions is to promote dialogue within the communities
and to inspire action. Several local and national organizations working
towards sustainable, clean, healthy food and fair access are invited to
attend the event to provide information and support to community
members who are interested in taking immediate action by providing
resources.
This year we are focusing on actions we can take locally and how we can get
involved in the movement for more sustainable agricultural production
practices and access to clean water and food.
This project has been funded by the NSW Environmental Trust and we are thrilled to partner with both the Bellingen and Nambucca Valley Local Food Networks.
